Claudia Wiesemann is Director of the Institute for Medical Ethics and History of Medicine at Goettingen University Medical Centre, Germany. She is also president of the German Academy for Ethics in Medicine – an academic society devoted to the advancement of research, education and public awareness in bioethics with members in Germany, Austria and Switzerland –, a member of the Central Ethics Committee for Stem Cell Research at the German Federal Ministry of Health and of the Central Ethics Commission at the German Federal Association of Physicians. Claudia Wiesemann was trained as a physician and has also studied history and philosophy. She has coordinated three European research projects, was a member of the DFG research group “Transcultural Bioethics” and is member of a number of bioethical advisory boards as well the editorial boards of German and international journals in the field of medical humanities.
