Prof. Dr. Gunnar Duttge studied Law at the University of Würzburg, Germany. After passing both German Legal State Examinations whilst working as a research assistant at the chair for Criminology and Criminal Law at the University of Würzburg (Prof. Dr. Ellen Schlüchter) he earned his doctorate in 1995. This was followed by his work as a scientific assistant at the chair of Criminal Law and Criminal Proceedings at the Ruhr-University of Bochum, subsequently he was habilitated and received his venia legendi (license for lecturing) for Criminal Law, Criminal Proceedings and Legal Philosophy. This was followed by the promotion as University Professor in April 2000, and after two semesters as substitute professor in Bochum and Munich Prof. Duttge became University Professor for Criminal Law and Legal Philosophy at the University of Munich in November 2001. In October 2009 became University Professor for Criminal Law and Criminal Proceedings at the University of Göttingen, being the successor of Prof. Dr. Schreiber. Since December 2005 Prof. Duttge is Executive Director of the Centre of Medical Law in Göttingen, additionally he is the dean of the Faculty of Law since April 2010.
