Prof. Dr. Volker Lipp was born in 1962 and studied Law at the universities of Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Göttingen. He took his first and his second state exam in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, and received his Dr. iur. (1995) and his habilitation (1999) from Mannheim University, Germany. Since 2000, he teaches Civil Law, Procedural Law, Medical Law, and Comparative Law at the Faculty of Law, Georgia Augusta University of Göttingen, Germany. He has been, inter alia, a member of the Executive Committee of the German Adult Guardianship Law Association (“Betreuungsgerichtstag”) since 2004, a member of the Committee for Fundamental Issues (since 2007) and of the Ethics Committee (since 2010) of the Federal Medical Council of Germany. He has been serving as an expert, inter alia, for the German Ministry of Justice and for the German Parliament on Guardianship Law, Continuing Powers of Attorney, and Advance Directives.
